This jacket is a result of a collaboration with Roma Romashchenko, an artist and garment maker. Roma's creative process is truly experimental and marked by improvisation. Notably, he doesn't replicate the same garment twice; instead, each piece is crafted uniquely, and he specializes in custom-made creations.
I played a role in this collaboration by creating the print on the fabric. Let me share a bit about it:
It is a scan of flowers I collected in the southern part of Ukraine. The journey was a bit dull, so I passed the time by gathering various flowers and learning about their unique properties. This led to the creation of a small, makeshift book where I documented my findings.
The scanning process happened in about a year, at the onset of a challenging time, marked by the beginning of an invasion in Ukraine. It was a period where emotions ran high, and there was a mix of feelings. Forced to stay indoors for many days, the routine of lying down and endlessly scrolling through the news became unbearable. Faced with limited space and a sense of futility, I turned to the scanner and the flowers.
The resulting image mirrored the cold and distant reality I felt during those days. Despite being lifeless, the flowers managed to preserve the memories of warmer, sunnier days.
This collaboration, therefore, encapsulates not just artistic expression but a shared narrative of resilience and creativity in the face of uncertainty.
